Keepkingwoodgreen.org - Donations and Freecycle
All the charities below are accepting donations of clothing for women, men and children, paired shoes, linen and small household items (kitchen utensils and appliances, small electronics, books, tapes, CD, suitcases, purses, sporting goods, jewelry, etc.), anything that could be sold in a thrift store.
Some charities also take large appliances, furniture, computers or magazines. Most charities don't have the resources to repair non working or damaged items though and thrift store are not allowed to resell mattresses and many of them are not selling toys. These items can be given away on Freecycle.
Drop-off Centers in the Kingwood/Porter/Humble area
- Goodwill (281) 446-4332: Donation center at 1800 Northpark Dr & Russel Palmer Rd (Kingwood) or donation trailer along the Loop 494, across from Lowe's. You can also bring your donation at one of their thrift stores in Humble or Atascocita.
- Society of St Stephens (281)358 7722, they have a donation center at 2210 Lake Village Dr in Kingwood
- Purple Heart Service Foundation has a donation trailer along Northpark Dr, near Russel Palmer Rd
- HAAM (Humble Area Assistance Ministries) - (281)446 3663- has a thrift Shop at 1204 E First Street in Humble (right next to Humble Post office) where you can bring your donations Monday through Friday 9:30am till 4:00pm and Saturday 10:00am till 3:00pm. No appliances other than working refrigerator and no items that are stained, torn or need repair. HAAM will also take rags and old clothing for recycling (please label the recycling bag).
- Family Time (281)354-5590 has a thrift Shop at 23874 Loop 494, Porter.
- AABY (281) 359-7166 has a thrift Shop at 22323 Loop494 in Kingwood (at the crossing with Northpark Dr)
Pick-up at Your House
Some charities come to Kingwood on a regular basis and are willing to pick up donations at your house.
- Jesus center (713)222-2830 - They come to Kingwood every Friday and accept almost everything for needy people. They even take furniture and appliances that need repair.
- HAAM (281)-446 3663 Ext114 -Monday through Saturday -For picking up large furniture items only. Nothing that needs repair.
- Salvation Army (713)425 8800 or (713)425 8700 for automobile donation - They repair furniture and electronics but accept only working large appliances.
- United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Houston (713) 948-2800- No TV and microwave, no magazines and nothing that needs repair.
- Houston Area Community Service (713)694 4116 or (713)562 9958 - For needy people - Nothing that needs repair.
- Purple Heart Service Foundation (713) 685-5400. They use to take even non working small appliances (microwave, toaster...).
Freecycle
Freecycle is a Yahoo! group connecting people who are throwing away unwanted items with others who are seeking the same items. Even rusted, torn, stained items or anything needing repair will make someone happy on Freecycle! The Humble-Kingwood group has more than 1100 members and is growing every day.
There are also Freecycle groups for Houston and North Houston. You may want to join them all and reach more people
Kingwood Yard Sale is another group where unwanted items can be given away in the FREE section.
