Who we are
Keep Kingwood Green is a 501(c)(3) grassroots environmental group focusing mainly on the recycling issue. It's free and everyone is welcome to join. Join our mailing list to get updates on our activities, meetings and local recycling news.
Our Mission Statement
- We are encouraging the City of Houston to improve the recycling opportunities in Kingwood and the Lake Houston area.
- We are working to ultimately bring recycling to curbside as a normal trash pick up process.
- We have a Writing Committee and a monthly Green Column in the Kingwood Observer.
- We are investigating ways to recycle yard waste to keep it from going to the landfill.
- We have speakers willing to go to schools or other locations to talk about recycling.
- We produce a local recycling guide available at Rapid Refill Ink (2714 W Lake Houston Pkwy) and other locations in the area.
- We are investigating ways that small businesses can recycle economically rather than sending all their cardboard and other materials to the landfill.
Our Committees
If you would like to volunteer please join one of our committees :
- Education (chairperson Candy Bowman): be a speaker, we have Power Point presentations ready for you. Be involved with school programs and student Green Clubs.
- Fundraising (chairperson Jim Harty): help us collect cellular phones and printer cartridges, write grants or organize fundraising activities.
- Publicity (chairperson Brigitte Collee): help organize or participate in tabling events. Write articles for newspapers. Help update and distribute our local recycling guide.
- Curbside recycling (chairperson Susan Pollard): help us find out which waste company offer the best curbside recycling option then convince each Home Owner Association to switch to that company once they'll need to renew their contract.
